The Warhol welcomes NewVillager, a collective of multi-media artists from San Francisco and New York, consisting of musicians, writers and visual artists who tour as a performance art ensemble/band, and create gallery-based installations as well as large scale “happenings” at spaces such as RedHouse, the band’s home and studio. Their first single, Rich Doors/Genghis (2009) garnered praise from Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and the NME, who described the band as “pop shamans taking meticulous steps towards a mysterious, musical nirvana.” And according to IFC, “[NewVillager] wield a pop song like a scalpel to the dance center of your brain.” Pittsburgh favorites Phat Man Dee opens the show, accompanied by Carlos Peña (Spanish guitar) & Miguel Sague III (Afro-Cuban percussion).
This event will feature a cash bar in the Museum lobby.
