The Warhol welcomes Betty Douglas & Co., for an evening of jazz, presented in connection with the exhibition Pearlstein, Warhol, Cantor: From Pittsburgh to New York. Ms. Douglas is a Pittsburgh-based artist and musician, who studied in Carnegie Tech’s Department of Painting and Design, overlapping with Philip Pearlstein, Andy Warhol, and Dorothy Cantor, and she became the program’s first African-American graduate in 1951.
She and her band have developed a set reflecting the era of the late 1940s and early 1950s, including classics by such iconic performers as Billie Holiday, Eartha Kitt, and Mabel Mercer.
