Explore Warhol’s fascination with Hollywood, fame, and stardom, which began with Warhol’s visits to the cinema with his brothers in gritty, industrial 1930s Pittsburgh. As a child, Warhol sent away for fan photos and devoured movie magazines, surrounding himself with celebrity images. This practice continued into adulthood, and he eventually accumulated a profusion of photographs, movie posters, and other memorabilia. Examine the concept of celebrity through hundreds of these archival items and look into the roots of the global celebrity culture that exists today. This event is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Andy Warhol: Stars of the Silver Screen.
