Sisley Art Project

October 23 – November 3, 2010

The Sisley Art Project, commissioned by Sisley, the Italian fashion brand of the Benetton Group, and curated by Glenn O’Brien, features 18 leather motorcycle jackets specially painted by 17of today’s leading fine artists.

The project premiered on September 22 at a gala exhibition at Palazzo Bovara in Milan during Fashion Week. These jackets, along with Warhol’s collection of artist jackets, will be on view at the museum from October 23 through November 3, 2010. In the early eighties, Warhol collected leather jackets, including one painted with his portrait and that of Jean-Michel Basquiat by the new wave artist Stefano Castronovo. Artists commissioned for this project include Castronovo, Rita Ackermann, Frederick “Fab Five Freddy” Brathwaite, Dan Colen, Ronnie Cutrone, Jean-Philippe Delhomme, Jane Dickson, Duncan Hannah, Robert Hawkins, Brad Kahlhamer, Nate Lowman, Marco Perego, Lee Quinones, Tom Sachs, Kenny Scharf, Walter Steding and Ouattara Watts. A live auction, to benefit The Warhol, of select jackets will take place at Christie’s New York on November 8, in coordination with an online auction starting September 22 on www.charitybuzz.com in order to facilitate international bidding.
