We work with teens to foster leadership through creativity, taking a cue from Warhol’s art and practice.

Youth Arts Council

Youth Arts Council (YAC) is a leadership program that invites a small team of high school students from across the Pittsburgh area to go behind the scenes of The Andy Warhol Museum. Teens collaborate with museum staff and artists, learn about our local creative community, create artwork, and develop public programs and events for other youth. YAC participants receive stipends while gaining professional experience. YAC meetings take place Thursdays from 4–6 p.m. at The Warhol, and applicants should plan to attend the majority of sessions from September to May.

Youth Fashion Show

Join us for an evening of glamor, style and sustainability at our Youth Fashion Show. Runway looks feature repurposed, reimagined and recycled garments and accessories created by teens. The Youth Fashion Show will highlight the work of students from around the city. If you need help sewing and finishing your fashion pieces, join us on Wednesdays from 4-8 p.m. for our Youth Open Studio Program at Artists Image Resource.

Application to participate in the Youth Fashion Show can be completed here. The deadline to apply is December 2nd.

Teen DJ Academy with Tech25

Learn to build and blend your own DJ sets that will get everyone on the dance floor! Presented in partnership with Tech 25, the Teen DJ Academy is a 12-week workshop series taught by professional DJs with the goal of providing hands-on experience with real equipment and opportunities to perform at Youth Invasion, LGBTQ+ Prom and other teen events. This program is free and our participants will earn a stipend for attending workshop sessions plus additional stipends per performance. Participants must be ages 13-18 and space is limited.

Enrollment for Teen DJ Academy will open in January 2025.

Youth Invasion

Teens take over The Warhol! Planned for teens by teens, Youth Invasion is an annual spring celebration that invites young artists, performers and designers to transform the entire museum with their creative energy. This event is planned by our Youth Arts Council and features a unique theme, custom decorations, teen gallery talks, artwork and teen performers!

LGBTQ+ Youth Prom

The Warhol hosts an annual LGBTQ+ Youth Prom, one of the only LGBTQ+ youth proms in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Prom is often considered a rite of passage and creates memories that last a lifetime. The Warhol’s Youth Prom offers a safe, gender-inclusive space where LGBTQ+ young people can celebrate with food, dancing, and artmaking. Prom is open to all young people ages 13-18, and is planned by our Prom Planning Committee.

School of Drag

This summertime workshop series for teens explores the art of gender-bending performance under the direction of working performers. Learn about the history of drag performance, make-up application and fashion design and creation. School of Drag is open to applicants ages 14-19 who are able to attend most of the sessions, as well as an in-person dress rehearsal and culminating performance. Applications will be made available online, and applicants will be notified of their acceptance within a week. The Warhol will provide supplies and transportation support.

Student Assistant Program

Teens are not just an audience for The Warhol – they are an essential part of our staff. Student Assistants are paid employees of The Andy Warhol Museum’s Department of Learning and Public Engagement. They perform educational duties inside the museum as well as during outreach programs and events. As a Student Assistant you gain real world skills, engage with a creative community and learn about new artistic processes and approaches.
