Explore Andy Warhol’s life—from his Pittsburgh roots to his career in New York City.
Andy Warhol was born Andrew Warhola on August 6, 1928, in a two-room apartment at 73 Orr Street in a working-class neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
After graduating from art school with a degree in pictorial design, Warhol moved to New York City to pursue a career as a commercial artist, and he dropped the final “a” in Warhola.
In 1960, Warhol turned his attention to the pop art movement, which began in Britain in the mid-1950s.
